Walleye Fishing
June 15 to August 15 ... Port Austin
When the waters of outer Saginaw Bay warm up, large schools of hungry walleye invade the shallow, rocky areas adjacent to Port Austin, providing an excellent fishery for these fiesty, tasty game fish. From the near shore waters of Port Austin, out to the shoals and reefs of Big Charity Island, limit catches of 3- to 5-pound fish are average, but 10 pounders are not uncommon.
We offer two styles of walleye fishing:
Trolling the open waters is a very productive and relaxing way to catch walleyes when they are suspended and active.
Jig fishing (drifting) is a more "hands-on" technique. Our guests hold the fishing rod, feel the bite and set the hook. This technique is productive when walleyes are less active, requiring a more subtle approach.
Regardless of technique, we supply all tackle, light action rods and bait.
